Departments & Labs
Many of our clients work with us as individual researchers. But when a whole department or lab uses DMC, the additional benefits can be surprising.
DEPARTMENT OF EPIDEMIOLOGY AND HEALTHCARE RESEARCH, KYOTO UNIVERSITY
Over the past few years, DMC has edited many dozens of papers for researchers at the Department of Epidemiology and Healthcare Research at the Graduate School of Medicine and Public Health, Kyoto University. But we’ve assisted their research in other ways, too.
Many self-administered questionnaires are written in languages other than Japanese. These require careful translation to ensure that the results of the Japanese and foreign versions can be properly compared. The process is called back-translation: first, the original version, say in English, is translated by a Japanese native speaker into Japanese. This Japanese version is then back-translated by an English native speaker, who has not seen the original version, to English. The original and translated English versions are then compared, and any discrepancies are identified and corrected in the Japanese. Back translation is an arduous process that requires a fine sense of language and culture. DMC has back translated a number of questionnaires for the Department.
